Day master calculator: find yours

In a Saju chart the upper character of the day pillar is you. Everything else — the other seven characters, the decades ahead — is read in relation to it. There are ten, one for each heavenly stem, and yours comes from the day you were born, corrected to the true solar time of your birthplace.

We use your birthplace’s time zone and longitude to find the true solar time of your birth. Pick the nearest large city if yours isn’t listed.

Gender

In Korean Saju, the direction of your 10-year luck cycles depends on it. Everything else works without it.

Why your birth year does not tell you

The day master comes from the day you were born, counted in an unbroken sixty-day cycle — not from your year or your zodiac animal. Two people born the same year, even the same month, usually have different day masters. It also shifts with the true solar time of your birthplace, which is why the calculator above asks for your city.

Yang and yin, and why both exist

Each of the five elements appears twice, once yang and once yin: 甲 is a forest tree and 乙 a vine, 丙 is the sun and 丁 a candle flame. Same element, different temperament — the yang form is direct and outward, the yin form adaptive and inward. Neither is stronger. They simply succeed by different means, and they are judged by different standards in a chart.
