What the other four elements are to you

A day master is never read alone. Every other character in the chart takes a role depending on how its element meets yours, and those roles are the ten gods (십신). For 壬:

Wealth (money, results, father; for men, partner) 재성

Officer (career, rules, status; for women, partner) 관성

Resource (learning, support, mother) 인성

Which of these you need more of depends on the whole chart, not on the day master alone. A 壬 born into a chart full of its own element wants an outlet; the same 壬 standing alone wants support. That judgement — strong or weak, and therefore which element is your 용신 (yongsin, the useful element) — is the first thing a reading settles.

壬 in each season

The month you were born into carries more weight than any other single character, because it sets the climate the whole chart lives in.

• spring (Wood months) — the season draws expression out of you: productive and visible, and quietly tiring.
• summer (Fire months) — the season is full of what you act on: opportunity everywhere, and a day master that needs its own strength to hold it.
• autumn (Metal months) — the season feeds you, so support, learning and comfort come easily — sometimes too easily to act on.
• winter (Water months) — your own element is in season, so the day master is at its strongest — confident, but at risk of having no outlet.
• The turn of each season (Earth months, the last weeks of each season) — the season presses on you: duty, structure and demand arrive early, and the chart usually needs support to carry them.

壬 and 癸: the same element, two temperaments

Water appears twice among the ten stems, once yang and once yin. 壬 (Im) is the yang form — a wide river flowing to the sea — while 癸 (Gye) is gentle rain or morning mist. They share an element and therefore share the same roles toward everything else in a chart, but they carry it differently: visionary against intuitive.

Traditional correspondences for Water

When a reading recommends your element, these are the everyday forms it takes: the colours black, navy, deep blue; the direction north; the season winter; the numbers 1 and 6; the salty flavour. In classical East Asian medicine the water phase is associated with the kidneys and bladder — a cultural lens on rhythm and balance, not a medical claim.
