What the other four elements are to you
A day master is never read alone. Every other character in the chart takes a role depending on how its element meets yours, and those roles are the ten gods (십신). For 辛:
- Wood 木
- Wealth (money, results, father; for men, partner) 재성
- Fire 火
- Officer (career, rules, status; for women, partner) 관성
- Earth 土
- Resource (learning, support, mother) 인성
- Water 水
- Output (expression, talent, children) 식상
Which of these you need more of depends on the whole chart, not on the day master alone. A 辛 born into a chart full of its own element wants an outlet; the same 辛 standing alone wants support. That judgement — strong or weak, and therefore which element is your 용신 (yongsin, the useful element) — is the first thing a reading settles.
辛 in each season
The month you were born into carries more weight than any other single character, because it sets the climate the whole chart lives in.
- spring (Wood months) — the season is full of what you act on: opportunity everywhere, and a day master that needs its own strength to hold it.
- summer (Fire months) — the season presses on you: duty, structure and demand arrive early, and the chart usually needs support to carry them.
- autumn (Metal months) — your own element is in season, so the day master is at its strongest — confident, but at risk of having no outlet.
- winter (Water months) — the season draws expression out of you: productive and visible, and quietly tiring.
- The turn of each season (Earth months, the last weeks of each season) — the season feeds you, so support, learning and comfort come easily — sometimes too easily to act on.
辛 and 庚: the same element, two temperaments
Metal appears twice among the ten stems, once yang and once yin. 辛 (Sin) is the yin form — a polished gemstone — while 庚 (Gyeong) is raw iron or a sword. They share an element and therefore share the same roles toward everything else in a chart, but they carry it differently: elegant against courageous.
Traditional correspondences for Metal
When a reading recommends your element, these are the everyday forms it takes: the colours white, silver, gold; the direction west; the season autumn; the numbers 4 and 9; the pungent flavour. In classical East Asian medicine the metal phase is associated with the lungs and large intestine — a cultural lens on rhythm and balance, not a medical claim.
Is 辛 your day master?
It comes from the day you were born, not the year, and it shifts with the true solar time of your birthplace. Calculate your chart and look at the day pillar — and if it turns out to be another stem, the other nine are here.
